SolidWorks
Software
At work, chances are your company will restrict you frm installing any sotware that might help your daily routines. There is a work around. Stand alone appplications, or portablle apps, run without being installed on your machine. I personally am not a fan of Internet Explorer. I use Firefox for simplicity, safety and speed. All my boookmarks are synced no matter what computer I use. Many little programs make my life as a designer much simpler as SolidWorks doesnt have all the functionality that I need. I have added a software ppage to this section to show my list of 3rd party applications that I use for my day to day tasks.
Macros Added
I have added a submenu to this page when anyone can access all my macros which have made my job simpler and has saved me countless hours at the desk. These are free to download and credit has been given to those who have created it. Keep in mind,
3D Content Central has a wide variety of macros available for download. The link is at the top right of this page.
Tip: If it's free, why not?!
Task Scheduler
This is a SolidWorks tool that has saved me time and kept things organized. It is a very powerful tool and has saved me countless hours per day. Some features of SolidWorks Task Scedule include Printing, Exporting, Updating Custom Properties (which I do constantly, and is extremly painful with many drawings). This will work on all parts, assemblies, as well as drawings and can be sceduled to perform whenever it is needed. Simulations can be updated, renders can be updated, files reloaded. It will also generate a report to identify any problems that it experienced to make sure everything is spot on. This is one of the many tools I think would make solidworks unbearable if it did not exist.
Tip: Be smart, let the computer do the work for you!
SolidWorks
This is the part of the website where I will be posting techniques and macros that have made my work a lot easier by fully understanding the software and how it all works. I have been using SolidWorks for many years and and understand the power it has. With the support for macros and the many built in features many designers overlook, SolidWorks can be any designers most powerful tool.
Tip: Its not what you model, but how you model it.
